“Somos algo sólido difícil de romper, pero a la vez existe un espacio dentro donde ponemos todas nuestras ideas y sueños juntos.” Cuando los miembros de Roka Hueka llegaron a la ciudad de la milla alta no se imaginaban la gran aventura armoniosa en cual se embarcarían gracias al iniciador del grupo, Andy Gonzalez. En el 2013, le nació la idea de crear una banda de Ska Latino y anunció búsqueda de músicos en Craigslist. Los corazones de aquellos que se encontraron se basan de Chihuahua, El Salvador, Kansas City, Nueva York, Virginia y Ohio. Entre esta colectiva musical se encuentran Andy, vocalista, Blake Pendergrass, baterista, Ric Urrutia, bajista, Mario Rodríguez, guitarrista y sonando la trompeta y el trombón, Matt Wilkolak y Hansen Millison.
Cuando se les preguntó cuáles son sus influencias más fuertes reconocieron la diversidad desde el Ska clásico del maestro, Laurel Atkin a la energía musical de sus carnales de Panteón Rococo, al Jazz de Bela Fleck. Su género es Ska con fusiones de Reggae, Jazz, Rock y sonidos latinos que te hacen enamorarte y olvidar la presión y los problemas. Integran los temas de a diario como violencia, racismo, abuso de poder y generan conciencia a través de su música y voz.
El grupo visita su cueva de ensayo cada semana para hacer nacer canciones. Dicen que disfrutan cada ensayo, lo viven y lo sienten, desde conectar todos los cables e instrumentos hasta la última nota que se escucha vibrar alrededor de esas cuatro paredes.” Su primer EP “En Vivo” incluye seis canciones como “Wave & Sound”, “Wrath of Skahn” y “Fantasma”, que “habla sobre las barreras que se crean alrededor del mundo, cuando no toman en cuenta la voz de quienes solamente quieren salir adelante y progresar, llenando su frente de sudor después de un día pesado de trabajo”. El 6 de febrero, con bandas de Denver y los seguidores que apoyan su movimiento, se juntaran en Rocket Space para celebrar su segundo aniversario ¡a lo grande!

Making up this musical collective are Gonzalez as lead vocalist, Blake Pendergrass on drums, Ric Urrutia on bass, guitarist Mario Rodríguez, and Matt Wilkolak and Hansen Millison on trumpet and trombone.
When asked who their strongest influences are they acknowledged the diversity ranging from Laurel Atkin’s classic ska to Bela Fleck to the musical energy of their comrades, Panteón Rococo. Roka Hueka is a ska band with fusions of jazz, reggae, rock and latin music that makes you fall in love and forget your problems. They call attention to everyday problems such as violence, racism, abuse of power and generate awareness through their music.
The group visits their “rehearsal cave” every week where new songs are born.They say they enjoy every practice, live it, feel it, from connecting all the cables and instruments to the last note that sounds and vibrates around those four walls. Their first EP “En Vivo” has six live recorded songs including “Wave & Sound”, “Wrath of Skahn” and “Fantasma”, which “talks about the barriers that are created around the world, when we do not take into account the voice of those who only want to move forward and make progress, filling their faces of sweat after a heavy day’s work.” February 6th Roka Hueka will be celebrating all out for their second anniversary at Denver’s own, Rocket Space.
