New on 94.3 The X: ‘Songs You Need To Hear’

by Shelby Taylor-Thorn

Cage the Elephant – Whole Wide World

Ok, so this isn’t technically a Cage the Elephant song. It’s a ‘70s tune by Wreckless Eric, and you may even know the Will Ferrell version from the movie Stranger Than Fiction. But, given the fuzzy, vintage garage rock vibes the band has been strumming since they gave us ‘Cold Cold Cold’ in January, you kind of wouldn’t know better.

Royal Blood – Lights Out

We’re all about putting guitar back into alternative rock, and that is exactly what British duo, Royal Blood, is giving us. ‘Lights Out,’ is the band’s second radio single following 2014’s ‘Little Monster.’

Foo Fighters – Run

Probably the most hardcore song we have on The X’s playlist right now. Yes, I said ‘Foo Fighters’ and ‘hardcore,’ because it’s like full of Dave Grohl screams – our fave. That’s the kind of angst we needed when we found out the Foo Fighters’ 2017 fall tour isn’t coming to Colorado, but is going to… Casper, Wyoming. What is that even?

Dirty Heads — Vacation

In a way, this song makes us feel like we’re doing things all wrong, and that life should seem a little more like a vacation than it does. Maybe it’s a needed reminder to take a breather from our workdays and, you know, actually enjoy summer a little bit.

Lorde – Perfect Places

‘What the f— are perfect places?’ she asks in her new song, which we’ve appropriately edited for radio. While you hear the singer on Bleachers’ newest single ‘Don’t Take the Money,’ she tells Seth Meyers that it was her recent songs like ‘Perfect Places’ that turned producer and friend Jack Antonoff into her ‘work husband.’  And, what a dream power couple they are, producing all your poppy summer 2017 anthems.
